INGREDIENTS:

1  1/2 cups tuvar dal ( yellow dal or pigeon pea)

1/2 tsp mustard seeds

1 sprig curry leaves

4-5 dry red chillies

1/2 tsp cumin seeds

1 tsp urad dal

1/2 tsp turmeric pd

1 tbsp minced garlic

5-6 green chillies – slit

1 tbsp coriander leaves – chopped

salt to taste

METHOD:

Wash dal well, put in a pressure cooker, add 1  1/2 cups water n a pinch turmeric pd and pressure cook it upto 4-5 whistles.

Cool, mash n keep aside.

Heat oil in a saucepan.

Temper with mustard seeds, curry leaves, urad dal,  dry red chillies, n cumin seeds ( in tht order).

Now add minced garlic n saute on low, till it starts to brown.

Add green chillies n turmeric pd n saute for a couple of seconds.

Pour in the mashed dal and add salt.

Add more water ( to the consistency u like) and bring it to a boil.

Cook for a couple of mins and remove from flame.

Garnish with coriander leaves

NOTE:

U can add vegetables like big cucumber, potatoes, drumstick, brinjal etc to this too.

If adding vegetables, add them after u saute green chillies and turmeric, add lil salt n water,  cover n cook till almost done, and thn add dal.

U can add a little bit of tamarind paste to enhance the taste!!!
